Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has issued a public notice, seeking nominations from individuals and organizations for four awards that it is giving away on the occasion of its 34th anniversary and International Sagarmatha Day on May 29. Every year, TAAN hands over four different awards – TAAN Sagarmatha Journalism Award, TAAN Sagarmatha Dr Harka Gurung Award, TAAN Sagarmatha Pasang Lhamu Award and TAAN Sagarmatha Pemba Doma Education Award. Anyone can nominate persons or organizations if they think they deserve the awards. The award sub-committee of TAAN will study the nominations and declare the winners. TAAN Sagarmatha Journalism Award, which carries a purse of Rs 50,000, will be given to journalists/photographers/cinematographers (working in print, electronic and online media) making significant contribution in the promotion of mountain tourism through their respective media. Similarly, TAAN Sagarmatha Dr Harka Gurung Award is conferred on individuals/institutions making significant contribution on development and promotional of eco-tourism, village tourism, mountain tourism, sustainable tourism, responsible tourism and nature conservation. TAAN Sagarmatha Pasang Lhamu Award, on the other hand, is given to a woman who has made her country proud by means of adventure tourism. Last but not the least, TAAN Sagarmatha Pemba Doma Education Award is conferred on individuals/institutions making significant contribution on tourism education.
